Transformation Partners in Health and Care > News > London Cancer Community of Practice celebrates 1st anniversary with special event

The London Cancer Community of Practice (CoP) hosted a celebratory event on 7 March at the CLCH Academy to mark it’s one-year anniversary.

The event, which was co-designed with CoP members and patient partners, was attended by leaders from NHS England and colleagues from across a range of professions, including General Practice and Community Nurses, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists and patient partners.

The event celebrated the achievements of the London Cancer CoP over the past year. These have included:

  • a comprehensive programme of monthly webinars and in-person events with strong CoP member attendance;
  • a review of evaluation data; and
  • submission of a conference abstract and poster for the 2023 Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Conference.

Royal College of Nursing (RCN) ‘Nurse of the Year’ Julie Roye featured as a keynote speaker at the event along with Louise Brady, Primary Care Lead Nurse at NHS England and Trevor Clower, a cancer patient who spoke about the community and volunteer led roadshows he hosts and how the model could be replicated across the London region.

As well as celebrating our achievements, the celebration event was an opportunity to look to the future. A multi professional panel of nurses and AHPs presented case studies demonstrating how collaborative working had or could have improved the patient experience.

A key theme from the panel discussion was communicating across organisational boundaries. The group discussed how shadowing opportunities could be implemented to improve knowledge on cancer, linking systems and clinical professionals.

We’re currently planning our CoP events for the year ahead in 2024/25. The next webinar will be held on the 25 April 2024 from 12:00 – 13:30 and will focus on frailty, older people and cancer.
