Who receives the vaccines and why
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) which advises UK health departments on immunisation, has made care home residents and staff a priority to receive the virus because:
- Residents in care homes for older adults have been badly affected by COVID-19
- Care home staff are at increased personal risk of catching COVID-19, and of passing it on to vulnerable people
- People with a learning disability are far more likely to die from Covid-19, so it is very important that they have the vaccine. Find out more here
Vaccines give you very effective protection against COVID-19. It is very important that both staff and residents in care homes have the vaccine, to protect each other, themselves, and their families.
