Preparation for care home residents
Here you can find information on preparing residents to have their vaccinations. It includes supporting residents to make a decision, consent issues, and managing vaccine anxiety and needle phobia. There are links to sample consent forms and useful letter templates.
For new residents, check whether they have had one or both doses of their vaccine – if you do not know, their GP can look on their records. If necessary, speak with their GP about arranging their vaccine.
Provisionally group residents into three categories to help staff who will be giving the vaccine:
- residents who are likely to have capacity to consent
- residents who have or may require a Legal Power of Attorney to consent on their behalf
- residents who may need a best interest decision made on their behalf
