Supporting children and young people with their emotional wellbeing and mental health is critical to help them achieve their potential. Since the coronavirus outbreak, many young people feel worried, anxious or isolated during these challenging times, but there are things we can all do to help and to prevent things from becoming more serious.
From the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis, Healthy London Partnership has been making changes to the mental health in schools toolkit through the addition of tailored COVID-19 content. The toolkit, originally developed in 2018 in partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA), aims to provide a range of information and links to relevant guidance and support for schools and commissioners on promoting emotional wellbeing and mental health within schools.
The new range of resources has been designed specifically to help manage mental wellbeing during this outbreak and includes a range of advice and information for children and young people, parents, carers, schools, governors and commissioners on mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Mayoral Health Advisor, Dr. Tom Coffey, OBE said:
“These are challenging times for everyone and after many weeks spent at home, away from their friends and usual routines, many children will be in need of support. That is why mental health provision must be a key priority for schools as they support children inside and outside of the classroom.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy a healthy and happy life and good mental health is an important part of that. This updated toolkit will provide staff with guidance on promoting good mental health at a time when it is more important than ever.”
