Transformation Partners in Health and Care > News > Checking in: Voices of young people during lockdown

Healthy London Partnership, Partnership for Young London, and Tik Tok have been collaborating on a project to run a bi-weekly listening project with young people aged 14-24 in and around London to better understand their experience of Covid-19. This report is part of an ongoing research programme into how young people are getting on during lockdown and will help to shape content and responses to Covid-19.

Key points:

  • Young people may be less vulnerable to Coronavirus infection, but they have been disportionately affected by the wider impacts of the pandemic. Black and minority ethnic groups, young carers, young people leaving care and those with pre-existing mental health conditions have been hardest hit of all.

  • Young people face an uncertain future; academic and career opportunities previous generations took for granted have been curtailed or have disappeared entirely.

  • Young people are (like many of us) feeling overwhelmed and need support. This support ranges from practical financial advice to enhanced mental health provisions.

  • Despite the challenges, young people are doing their absolute best to stay positive. They have an inspiring sense of personal and civic responsibility and are doing amazing things to support each other, their families and their wider communities.
