London Borough of Newham: TRID programme

Newham Council have been working on a programme of Anti Racist practice across the council. This is led by the Tackling Racism Inequality and Disproportionality (TRID) programme and board set up in 2021 following a Covid-19 wave one deep dive – Newham had the highest age standardised death rate in the country  – and the murder of George Floyd.

The pack highlights achievements and initiatives from the first two years of the programme.

The council also shared its ambitions around an equitable health and care system via the learning approach of the Newham Health Equity programme. Focused on positive outcomes and with a stakeholder designed maturity matrix, the programme prompts services to explore equity issues in pathways, share learnings and jointly build system enablers to improve equity practice and outcomes. As Newham has a multi-ethnic population, race and ethnicity form the primary lens of enquiry on questions around equity.
